President's Welcome Message

Greg Braun, N9CHA – 2007-2008
Share your enthusiasm for our wonderful hobby!
I remember many years ago when my father brought home a Drake 2B receiver and set it up in my brother’s bedroom. It seems like just yesterday when the three of us would stare into the glowing slide-rule dial and tune in signals from all over the world: “CQ CQ CQ…", the distant stations would call. The fun and excitement of those early experiences in ham radio are treasured memories today.
The Fox River Radio League is a club of individuals who have their own stories to tell and share with others. Just ask a fellow ham when they made their first contact and they will surely come back with a delightful story. Your first contact may have been on CW, as mine was, or perhaps you talked to someone on our local repeater system. No matter; the sweaty palms, the nervous stomach and the trepidation all make up your first experience.
There are many modes to enjoy, new countries to talk to, equipment to buy and trade, and new friends yet to be made. In a club like ours, you have the opportunity to share your experiences with radio, as well as seek out those who have experimented with modes of communication you may wish to get involved with. It has been my great pleasure to meet many of you who share the same passion for this hobby.
My goal as your club president is to create an environment of enthusiasm and camaraderie, to make the members accessible to each other at meetings and special events, and to enhance our experiences through continuing education.
73,
Greg Braun, N9CHA
