January 2007 ARRL Kid's Day

CQ CQ CQ this is W9CEQ Kid's Day! The bands were jumping with eager voices on January 7th as the Fox River Radio League once again participated in Kid's Day. Our Next Gen Hams group lead by Tobi KC9GDL, organized the annual ARRL event this year. Greg N9CHA hosted several FRRL members and their kids at his QTH, providing two HF stations and two VHF/UHF stations.

Members who participated include Dick AH6EZ, John K9COE, and Tom WB9CHY. Pat N9TBD brought his daughter Michelle and son Tony. Dean KC9EOQ and his wife Tammy brought their sons Brenden KC9KJW, and Colin. Eric KC9FQV and his wife Marilyn KC9KJV brought their daughter Sarah.

The FRRL kids operated on 20 and 40 meters, the Fox 2 Meter Repeater, and IRLP. They talked to hams in Michigan, Ohio, Illinois, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, and Wisconsin. Kid's Day is intended to encourage young people (licensed or not) to enjoy Amateur Radio. This is the second annual FRRL gathering which provided kids an on-the-air experience so they might develop an interest in pursuing a license in the future.
