Ham Radio Digital Workshop

On Sat., Oct. 13th, Mike, K9FE presented a Ham Radio Digital Workshop, highlighting HF Digital Modes. This free-to-members FRRL educational seminar was well-attended and provided an excellent opportunity to learn about an increasingly popular facet of our hobby. Catherine KC9KJU, new PR Chairperson

This important position includes submitting news releases to our local and regional news papers announcing our club meetings and special events, as well as creating and submitting news bulletins to our ARRL Section Manager. Please welcome Catherine to the FRRL leadership team!

Next Gen Hams Radio Fair, Oct. 7th

FRRL Field Day Event A Rousing Success!!

Despite the rain, FRRL Club members (85-strong) turned out to support this national display of emergency preparedness and came in second place in the 8A category. Read more, here.

FRRL to Utilize D-Star Repeater System

The FRRL D-Star repeater system is the first D-Star system in Chicago and the 9th Gateway- equipped system in the US.  It is now common to hear stations from Dallas, Atlanta, New York, Newington and Hawaii on the W9CEQ D-Star repeaters through the FRRL D-Star gateway. Tech Classes Completed!

The FRRL offered entry level Ham Radio and Morse Code classes. The participation was excellent and the students have done very well--we have 5 new hams, 5 potential new hams, and one club member who passed their code element. Learn more about our education program, here. See class pictures, here.


Two smiling faces and matching club shirts tells the story of Brenden's successful attempt to pass the Tech test. Dean KC9EOQ is one proud Dad! Dean presented his son with his own club shirt and as a bonus, will have Brenden's name and call sign (KC9KJW) embroidered on it.

Other new hams from the class include: Pat KC9KJS, Chris KC9KJT, Catherine KC9KJU, and Marilyn KC9KJV. Frank KC9HRL passed the Morse Code element.
