Brenden and his father Dean KC9EOQ go over some last minute details prior to the Tech exam. Brenden took the exam and missed passing by only 1 question. He then decided to try again, this time he passed (now, KC9KJW).

Michelle and her father Pat attended all four Technician classes. They studied together and both took the Tech test. Michelle tried twice and was very close to passing, but did not quite get enough right this time. Her father Pat (now, KC9KJS) was successful and will receive his Tech license soon. Both Michelle and Pat look forward to attending FRRL meetings and becoming active members in our club.

Frank KC9HRL passed his Morse Code element on Saturday. Frank has been studying the code for some time and is very pleased with himself for getting his CSCE. Frank tried twice on Saturday to pass the code element and was successful. He will be studying for his General written test and hopes to pass it soon.

As you can imagine, Brenden KC9KJW was very excited after passing the Tech test. His first phone call to spread the good news was to his mother. Now the Holste family has two hams. Perhaps we will see more family members getting their tickets?

Catherine passed her Tech test (now, KC9KJU) as well on Saturday. She was a bit nervous going into the test, but her friend Bart KC9FQA encouraged her and was proud of her success. Catherine looks forward to passing her Morse Code element soon as well. Then, it's on to General class!

Sarah and her Mom, Marilyn, attended the Tech classes together, studied together, and took the test together. At first, Sarah was the active participant in the class with her Mother and Father Eric KC9FQV in support. By the second week of class, Marilyn had grasped the material so well that she decided to push through with her daughter and go for a license. Way to go! Sarah only missed a few questions, so with more study, she'll be back. By the way, Sarah is a very bright 8 year old! Marilyn passed (now, KC9KJV) and we can expect to hear her on our repeaters soon.

Three members of the Boulder Hill Elementary School Ham Club, W9BHB participated in the FRRL Tech classes as well. Emily, Abby and Kaela are very good friends and studied together all the time. Each of the three girls took the test, and each girl came up a little short this time. However, they all agreed they are going to continue to study and re-test very soon. The girls are in the 5th grade and regularly attend the Ham Club meetings which are taught by fellow club and board member, John K9COE.

Frank KC9HRL and Marty N9NTM attended the four sessions of Morse Code practice hosted by the FRRL. Frank took the code exam and passed. Marty says he will continue studying and will test soon.

Adam KC9ITG also participated in the Morse Code practice sessions. Adam has been listening to the code for a few weeks, and is getting closer and closer to passing the exam. With a little more practice, he will succeed. Adam also was a part of the supporting cast during the Technician classes. He assisted the class by explaining the material to the students when they needed a little help.

Prior to the test, Emily, Kaela and Abby hit the books. They used the Q & A section in the back of the current ARRL License Manual to test themselves on the material.

Dan K9CDL presents his wife Cris (now, KC9KJT) with a new radio, software and hat after she successfully completed her Tech test. Cris accomplished a 100% grade on her test. She is very excited about getting her new license and has already talked about studying the Morse Code and the General class material. Dan also provided assistance to other class members when they needed assistance.

Denny W9HI helping out Sarah and her mom Marilyn. Eric KB9IDT, Craig AB9IV and Adam KC9ITG are also shown helping the students.

KB9YSI Bill has also been sending code to the students. He enjoys Morse code and uses it on a regular basis. He brought along his FT-817 Yaesu radio to demonstrate the built in keyer functions and to introduce QRP operation. Bill also provides excellent insight into emergency communications and has been a regular contributor to the Technician class sessions.
