2007 FRRL Hamfest Wrapup
Well folks, it's over. Another successful hamfest put to bed until next
year. It could not have happened without the participation of you, the
members of FRRL. On Saturday evening we had twenty members show up to help set up the cafeteria and to help the vendors bring in their product. Of course, one of the advantages of helping on Saturday evening is that first look at what the vendors have to offer the next day!
With the various
activities planned for the hamfest, everyone pitched in to help, whether it was following Becky's, KB9UBU, directions for tent assembly or running the
speaker cord out to the parking lot, the FRRL members made it happen. On
Sunday, coined as the hottest day of summer so far, once again FRRL members
were on hand to help. There were 35 members who stopped by the club table
to sign in during the day. Keith, N9YA and Marty, N9NTM handled the influx
of cars, while Carol, WD9CNW and Tim, N9TO and their crew braved the heat
while selling tickets at the gate, as Lloyd, KC9DMS guided them to the school as the Talk-in person.
Mike, K9FE and John, AG9D staffed the HF
digital "GOTA" tent where I understand several contacts were made via PSK
31. One member came up to me all excited and told me he had worked a station in Europe (the country name escapes me at the moment) using PSK 31,
despite the band conditions.
The VE's:
Tim Toman, N9TO
Tom Davis, WB9CHY
Eric Gustafson, KB9IDT
Mike Urso, K9FE
Alan Ahasic, W9AN
Doug Reneker, W9RD
administered various exams, and the
forums, presented by Dick AH6EZ (GOTA / Antennas) and Mark, WB9QZB (D-Star) were held in the Library.
Tobi, K9TCD, posted double duty handling the club members' consignment sales table and answering questions about The Next Gen Hams.
Everything went smoothly. Suffice to
say, from setup to tear-down, FRRL members can be counted on to help make
our club activities the successful events that they are. Perhaps the best news of the day for me was hearing that my wife Tamie (now KC9LWX) passed her Technician's exam! When's that next General class, Eric??
